AFTER failing to make it to the final of the 100m freestyle yesterday, Jamaica’s swimming star Alia Atkinson will switch attention to one of her more favoured strokes when she takes part in the women’s 200m breaststroke at the Pan-American Games at the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Aquatics Centre and Field House in Toronto, Canada.

Atkinson was third in her first-round heat and 11th overall after swimming 56.29 seconds to finish behind Brazil’s Larrissa Martins in 55.01 seconds, and Canadian Michelle Williams in 55.29 seconds, both of whom qualified for last night’s final.

Also today, Timothy Wynter will compete in the 200m backstroke after failing to advance in the men’s 100m freestyle yesterday, placing sixth in his heat in 52.59 seconds.

Yesterday, Trudian Patrick qualified for the B final in the women’s 200m butterfly after placing sixth in her heat in two minutes, 24.26 seconds, and 16th overall.

She then joined Atkinson, Danielle Boothe and Breanna Roman to place eighth in the only heat of the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay in three minutes, 59.09 seconds and qualified for the final.
