Big Sunday for ‘Vernam’
SUNDAY is shaping up to be another full day of quarter-mile action for the National Drag Racing Circuit (NDRC) when they host Nestlé Supligen Drag Challenge #3 at Vernamfield, Clarendon.
“Our plans are to continue to present a top-quality race meet for the spectators and racers to enjoy,” Stephen Gunter, NDRC executive member, told Auto.
As usual, the NDRC held a Test & Tune session on July 19, as it does every Sunday before the main race day. It’s often considered the bellwether of the upcoming race meet, and with 90 drivers taking advantage of the free day of testing — a NDRC record — there should be a full field of participants to amp up the event.
“Our previous highest was 75,” Gunter said.
Gunter added that the NDRC constantly makes improvements in the areas of spectator comfort and race management to maximise the experience for everyone.
Mixed in with the locals will be three new Caymanians, Trevor Mohammed, Donald Francis and Jodi Jervis. Mohammed has been in Jamaica from the start of the year, but has yet to take the track as his Evolution X has dogged by mechanical issues, which should be sorted out by Sunday. His fellow countrymen have a lot to offer: Jervis who will arrive with what is reputed to be the most powerful car in Cayman, a Nissan Skyline. Francis will drive a turbocharged Honda Civic.
