We need a second term, says Paulwell
CLARENDON, Jamaica – Constituents of the South Eastern Division of Clarendon, were on Sunday encouraged by People’s National Party (PNP) Region Three chairman, Phillip Paulwell, to give the governing party a second term in office.
Paulwell was speaking at a party conference at the Old Hayes School grounds in Clarendon.
“The PNP needs a second term, the PNP has to get a second term,” Paulwell, minister of energy and mining, charged.
“Comrades, when I became minister in 2012, it was embarrassing – the situation in our country. When you thought of what we left in 2007, four and a half years to see the dismantling of our economy, of our society, of our country, it was embarrassing,” Paulwell noted.
“You don’t want that to happen to you again,” he added resolutely. “We don’t want that to happen to us again.”
Paulwell went on to list the reasons the PNP should be re-elected, which included the reopening of Alpart, the implementation of number portability, as well as the PetroCaribe debt buy-back.
“On the mining side, you have to give us a second term because Alpart has reopened, we have started with mining because 315 [individuals] have been employed in the first week of September,” Paulwell stated.
“On the technology side, you have to give us a second term. Number portability is here once and for all. The telephone number you have for many years, today, under your Government, your number is yours,” Paulwell continued.
The energy minister also mentioned a J$6-billion solar energy project that is to be developed in Content Village in the parish.
“The prime minister and myself were with comrade (Noel) Arscott recently, because in his constituency we are establishing the largest solar farm in the entire Caribbean – 20 megawatts of solar,” he said.
Paulwell, in driving home his point to have his party re-elected, said: “We need a second term. When we came into office people were losing their US visas because Jamaica was regarded as pariahs. [Now], we are also pleased and proud that Jamaica was able to welcome the president of the United States of America this year.”
