Slight increase in NWC water levels

THE recent rainfall across the island, especially in the Kingston Metropolitan Area (KMA), has resulted in a slight increase in the intake of water to the National Water Commission (NWC) storage facilities.

This was stated by Acting President of the NWC, Mark Barnett, at a heads of agencies meeting at the Ministry of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change in Kingston on Wednesday.

Barnett told portfolio minister Robert Pickersgill that even though the rains brought some relief there was no significant impact on the storage levels in the Hermitage Dam or Mona Reservoir.

“The restrictions will remain and that will be enforced until we see some continued improvement. If the rains continue, then we may revise the schedule we have in place for the Corporate Area,” he said.

Barnett said that at the Hermitage facility, some 40 million gallons of water have been added, while at Mona, there has been an increase with inflows from the Yallahs and Hope River intake systems.
