#BEIJING2015: O’Dayne Richards advances to Shot Put final
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Having never made it beyond the first qualifying round of the Shot Put event at a World Championships, Jamaica’s O’Dayne Richards today claimed a spot in the finals of the event at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China.
The 26-year-old Richards threw 20.55 to advance.
Richards got the 20.55-metre mark on his first attempt.
The shot putters were required to throw a distance of 20.65 metres to automatically qualify, but only three men managed to pass that distance.
USA’s 2015 world leader Joe Kovacs is in pole position with 21.36m, followed by compatriot Reese Hoffa (20.75m) and Germany’s David Storl (21.26m).
