KINGSTON, Jamaica — A police constable was on Thursday charged by detectives from the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

Charged is 41-year-old Dudley Lewin, who is attached to the St Catherine North Division.

Allegations are that on Saturday August 15, Lewin seized a coaster bus and later solicited $30,000 for the release of the motor vehicle without prosecution under the Road Traffic Act. A report was made to MOCA, resulting in the execution of an operation.

It is said that on Monday August 17, Lewin allegedly collected $16,000 from the complainant and was arrested by detectives from MOCA during and operation.

During the process to apprehend him, a struggle reportedly ensued which resulted in a firearm being discharged. The accused was shot in his right arm. He later received medical attention and released into the custody of the police.

Lewin was offered bail in the sum of $400,000 with one or two sureties, reporting conditions and to surrender all travel documents.

He is to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday October 13, 2015.
