HE would not be denied. Not last night for sure. Usain Bolt’s father Wellesley refused to be robbed again of the opportunity to embrace his son who had just won his third World Championships 100m title.

With the entire Bird’s Nest in a frenzy, following Usain’s victory over Justin Gatlin, the elder Bolt and his wife, Jennifer, were making their way through the crowd when security personnel tried to stop him.

Jennifer skilfully navigated her way through but Wellesley was held by a security guard. They had formed a barrier securing the track.

“Mi just give him the elbow. Him mad? Him can see mi son win and a try stop me,” said Wellesley.

He then shook his head, “bwoy, him a real champion,” said Wellesley, as he made his way back to his hotel.

Incidentally, it’s the same hotel where Justin Gatlin’s parents are staying. “Yes, they are nice people. We talked. But I wonder if they will talk to me now,” he said laughing. “But them nice. We even tek pictures together,” he noted.
