Cellphone thief fined J$7,000
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man who pleaded guilty to stealing a cellular phone was fined J$7,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court last Friday.
Jean Peart pleaded guilty to the charges of simple larceny and possession of an offensive weapon.
Allegations are that on August 17, the complainant was walking along Sutton Street in downtown Kingston, when Peart, armed with a knife, stole a cellular phone valued at $10, 605 from her.
The cellular phone has since been recovered.
Peart was subsequently fined J$5,000 or 14 days for larceny from the person and J$2,000 or five days for possession of a offensive weapon.
A fingerprint order was also made.
