THIRTY students, who got high marks in the recent Grade Six Achievement Test, and their teachers from the Central Kingston constituency of Education Minister Ronnie Thwaites, were feted to what they termed a “priceless trip of a lifetime” at Beaches Ocho Rios, recently.

“It was an experience that they will never forget,” said Dionne Rose, assistant to the education minister. “They couldn’t stop talking about the wonderful time they had at the resort and the way the staff took care of their every need.”

The schools associated with the incentive from Sandals Resorts International were: Franklin Town, Alpha, Allman Town, Jessie Ripoll and St Michaels primary; Calabar Infant, Primary and Junior High; Holy Family Primary and Infant School.

The group spent a fun-filled day at the resort including being greeted on arrival by Sesame Street characters Cookie Monster and Elmo, who danced and socialised with the gleeful youngsters. Elmo was a huge favourite with the children and posed for photographs with students as well as teachers.

“I had a magnificent time,” said a beaming Omario Evans from Allman Town Primary. “This trip has been something special. I had a great time, especially at the water park. It was also fun meeting the Sesame Street characters and taking pictures with them. When I go back to school I will tell my classmates at my new school about the wonderful trip at Beaches and I definitely want to come back.”

The group was also treated to a special boat ride, meals and all received gifts courtesy of the hotel, before their departure.

General Manager Brian Roper, who was on hand to welcome the group as well as assist in serving them breakfast, said he was delighted to host the students and teachers who had worked hard to achieve great success in the GSAT exam. “What better way to get ready for high school than to experience the best family resort in the world, and create special memories,” he said.

Roper added that “our team members made fast friends with the kids, who encouraged us with open hearts and great smiles. Everyone had a blast and we know they will take back special memories”.

“I had so much fun. It was a very nice day and I loved the boat ride and all the wonderful food I was able to eat, said 11-year-old Abbegayle. “The staff at the resort are so friendly and there was so much to do.”

Rose summed up the trip: “This was an experience that none of the students have had before and some may never will again. We are extremely thankful to Beaches for opening their doors and hearts to them. This was a special incentive and we are
