JCF working to restore integrity after cops caught committing crimes
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Police High Command yesterday said it has noted with great concern the recent incidents of criminal activities involving serving members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
The lawmen sought to assure the public that “this type of conduct, by no means, is typical of the general membership of the JCF, the majority of which is made up of individuals who are hardworking, committed, honest, law-abiding and, of the highest integrity”.
The leadership of the JCF, in a release from the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), reaffirmed its commitment to making the police force a highly professional workforce which prides itself on integrity, honesty and accountability.
To ensure that this is achieved and maintained, a more stringent supervision mechanism is being implemented to effectively manage the screening of members joining the JCF, the release said.
The high command also said it is strengthening capacity to enhance the monitoring of serving members.
In addition to the raft of integrity monitoring processes already in place, there will be significant increase in the internal surveillance mechanisms to ensure that those with criminal intent are separated from this organization, CCU explained.
The high command also renewed its call for people with information on illicit activities and unprofessional conduct of members of the JCF to share what they know with the Major Organised and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) or the Inspectorate of Constabulary.
Just yesterday, two constables were held while committing criminal activities.
In the first instance residents of Morgan’s district in Spaulding, Clarendon set upon robbers in their community, only to later discover that one of the men was a police constable.
Then, MOCA officers arrested one of their colleagues later that day after he was reportedly caught in the process of soliciting money from an individual being investigated by the agency.
