Wayne DaCosta, 14-time champion trainer, has informed that the next racing assignment for his charge Fortuneonehunded, will be the seven-furlong Gold Cup, scheduled to be run on Heroes Day, October 19.

This follows his impressive win in the second running of the $845,000 Saint Cecelia Cup over 1,300 metres last Saturday.

“Fortuneonehundred’s next racing assignment more than likely will be the Alex Imports Gold Cup. In the Gold Cup there will be a lot more speed, as you will have horses like Uppa Tune to deal with. You probably will have Typewriter and Perfect Neighbour in a race like that, you never can tell, but I think Fortuneonehundred will have a fairly good chance of winning,” DaCosta said.

The five-year-old chestnut gelding used his superior speed to cripple his eight rivals in the Open Allowance event by five lengths. Ridden by Robert Halledeen, Fortuneonehundred dictated the pace from the off, before he opened up on the field turning for home to run out an easy winner to complete his second trophy victory in a month.

Pete’swildone was second, Traditional Prince third and Timeforarms fourth. The winning time was 1:19:0 minutes.

“It was a good performance by Fortuneonehundred; the track wasn’t that fast. It was a speed race from the word go, as Mom’s Student and Lady Shankari definitely tested him. However, he shook them off leaving the three-furlong pole and sprinted clear and the run-on horses never got going either,” DaCosta told the Complete Racing Guide.

Halledeen said that it was an armchair ride for him.

“The race wasn’t that difficult as he led uncontested, which is what he loves and once he is unchallenged, he is going to win easily. Leaving the half-mile, at that point I knew that race was in the bag as no one was really coming forward and I had a ton of horse left, so it was just how far it would be,” the winning rider said.
