PINK Panther outclassed its rivals in the third round of the Guinness Sounds of Greatness sound system clash in Alexandria, St Ann, on Saturday night.

The other contestants were Flava Unit, Platinum Vibes and Interceptor.

“We feel good about the win, extremely good. It took a lot of preparation and cut a lot of dubs, so we were well prepared for it,” Pink Panther, aka The Five-Star General, told the Jamaica Observer. “We ready for the next round. Ready and waiting.”

The evening saw Platinum Vibes opening the competition with a shaky start due, in part, to some technical issues. However, despite a strong finish, it was clear it would have not been their night.

At the end of the first round, they were given a lifeline in the form of a three-song play-off against Flava Unit. They, however, failed to grab the opportunity.

While Pink Panther was awesome in the first round, Interceptor gave the Five-Star General a run for his money.

In his ‘deliberation’, judge Tony Matterhorn said while Pink Panther had a better intro, Interceptor played the best selections and had the night’s “biggest forward”.

Cognisant they were playing in Bass Odyssey’s hometown, Pink Panther drew for a tribute to the sound system’s late selector, Squingy, performed by singer Romain Virgo. The crowd went into a frenzy declaring them winners.

Flava Unit and Interceptor followed. However, it was Interceptor that advanced to the dub-for-dub showdown.

In the end, Pink Panther came out victorious.

The next staging of Guinness Sounds of Greatness sound system clash is scheduled for Friday, September 25 at Red Stripe Oval in Kingston.
