TIVOLI ENQUIRY: Witness backtracks on evidence
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Witness Minnette Lindsay has backtracked on evidence given earlier that she saw a soldier shoot a man of unsound mind in his head.
She changed her evidence after QC Garth McBean, the senior counsel for the Tivoli Commission, confronted her with the post mortem showing that Sidney Clarke was shot in the abdomen and chest, not in the head.
She said she got the impression that he was shot in the head after an 11-year-old relative of the victim, who identified his body, said that his head “mash up”.
She had testified that she saw Clarke being shot in the head. However, pressed by McBean, she said she never saw where on his body he was shot.
She said she saw Clarke running and the soldier shooting.
