A Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) building inspector accused of soliciting approximately $1 million in an attempt to turn a blind eye to the construction of an illegal building is to be slapped with additional charges.

Fabian Cawley, a 28-year-old resident of Portmore, St Catherine, is charged with breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.

Cawley was remanded when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Monday after it was revealed that additional charges are pending against him.

The court heard that in May this year, Cawley visited a location in Kingston where a building was being constructed. He allegedly informed the proprietor that the Building Permit had expired. He is accused of soliciting $500,000 in order to expedite the process of renewing the permit.

A report was made to the Major Organised Crime Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA), which investigated and, on August 24, at approximately 2:00 pm apprehended Cawley during a sting operation at the location.

Cawley, the police said, had reportedly turned up at the complainant’s office and collected $350,000.

The money was reportedly found in his pants pocket.

On August 25, he was charged after being questioned at MOCA in the presence of his attorney.

Cawley is scheduled to return to court today, when the additional charges are expected to be laid.
