Maxwell, Clauson top CUMI Come Run
SANDY BAY, Hanover — Delon Maxwell and Jane Clauson won their respect gender event of the 5K CUMI Come Run at last Saturday’s staging at the Tryall Club.
First-time entrant Rupert Green from Rainforest Seafoods, ended Chris Mills’ back-to-back winning streak to walk away with the first place trophy in 33:41 minutes.
Champions of the 5K Maxwell and Clauson recorded winning times of 18:05 and 23:22 minutes, respectively.
Karlene Blagrove, the reining 10K female Run winner clocked 46:58. Blagrove, a three-time CUMI Come Run 10K winner, who now represents the Pacers Running Club, said that it was again another tough race and she had to push herself to be victorious.
Tryall’s Clauson said that she, too, found it “to be a tough race but there was a great energy owing to the number of participants who turned out this year”.
Seven hundred and eighty participants entered this year’s run that hopes to raise $5 million towards the CUMI Trust Fund. All proceeds raised will go towards continuing the work of the rehabilitation of the mentally ill in St James and its environs.
Xerox walked away with the award for the largest corporate team with 204 entrants.
Vistaprint’s Maxwell admitted that this race is one that he looks forward to each year, and there was nothing that could stop him from retaining his title.
“The person who came second wasn’t offering any room. I kept looking back and there was one time when I felt like giving up. I knew I was going at 400-metre speeds approaching the finish line, but I couldn’t slow down and risk losing the race,” he said.
