St Ann NW residents to benefit from Second Chance Initiative
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Constituents from St Ann North Western will benefit for a third consecutive year from the Second Chance Initiative Programme, a brainchild of Member of Parliament for the constituency Dr Dayton Campbell.
Campbell, who insists that “education is a redemptive tool,” is expected to host an orientation exercise at the St Hilda’s Diocesan High School on Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
The free programme invites constituents of all ages to improve their educational standing in a number of areas.
“All across Jamaica we have good, honest, hard-working people who for one reason or another may not have had a chance to live up to their academic potential. The Second Chance initiative is a chance for people in NW St Ann to either catch up on something they had missed or start something entirely new,” said Campbell.
Under the programme, constituents are to benefit from GSAT, CSEC, literacy, and numeracy classes as well as cosmetology, food preparation, housekeeping, mechanic, plumbing, woodwork and skills training courses to be conducted by bartending company, Bars To Go.
Campbell said some 524 students graduated from the Bars To Go course in year one and 574 in year two.
At the same time, he said some 12 students out 18 were successful in CSEC sittings with 20 out of 25 passing English Language and 10 out of 10 for principles of business.
He also added that students from the GSAT programme have now been enrolled in traditional high schools since the start of this school year.
The MP is encouraging persons to register at the constituency office.
