5 things we learned about Empire Season 2 from the premier
LAST season of Fox’s breakout series, Empire left many of us on the edge of our seats. For more than one reasons, it was #epic. The premiere of this new season was a not-to-be-missed event and it did not disappoint. Before we get ahead of ourselves with that dramatic opening episode of season two, here are a few things we can surmise about what to expect this season, just by watching the first episode:
1. High Fashion2. More rad young talent3. More big names4. Controversial Themes5. Luscious is still BOSS
If last season’s fashion had viewers desperately trying to obtain pieces from the cast’s wardrobe, this season will certainly not leave fashion-conscious viewers disappointed. If that laced detailed-dress that the show’s leading lady in fashion (and overall), Cookie Lyon made her first appearance in did not promise that, I don’t know what it did. Also, a hint from a minor character hinted that the characters may be strutting their stuff in some big name designer threads. Did somebody say Gucci?
The show’s first season had an amazing sound track and gave several young artistes exposure. Two such were Yaz (who plays Hakeem Lyon) and singer V Boseman, both of which came to Jamaica to perform. We can certainly expect not only more great music, but more young and upcoming talent. Episode one showed its first hopeful in Frankie’s (played by Chris Rock) daughter.
Like last season, expect to see many celebrities, personalities and familiar faces in Empire. That is one of the things that has viewers glued to their TV’s every week, wondering which celebrity they will see next. Actor/comedian Chris Rock did a great job playing don, Frankie in episode one.
So last season, Empire introduced some very controversial themes, such as homosexuals in the plot. Don’t expect to see that go away. As a matter of fact, expect to see more drama and controversy. Episode one saw gays as well as lesbians. Don’t be surprised if a transgender person pops up.
This is perhaps the most important thing to take away from episode one. Don’t be fooled, the more things change, the more they remain the same. Yes, Luscious is in prison, and Cookie is free (seemingly the opposite of last season) but who does she run to for help? He was very smart in choosing Jamal to run Empire, as all that is happening is that he does it vicariously. Luscious is still in control. Nothing has changed.
