Doctor charged with illegal abortion bail extended

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Dr Lloyd Brooks, who is charged with procuring abortion, today had his bail extended when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.

He is to return to court on November 18.

Brooks’ station bail was extended by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey after the court was informed that the file was incomplete.

The 54-year-old medical doctor was charged last Friday after detectives from the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) received a report that he had carried out an abortion on a minor. He was questioned in the presence of his attorney and was charged with the offence.

Brooks is being represented by attorney-at-law Valerie Neita-Robertson.
