Robbers strike outside UWI gate

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Students studying at the University of West Indies, Mona are being warned to be more vigilant when going about their daily activities at the front of the institution.

The warnings follow reports that criminals driving motorcycles are targeting students while they await public transportation.

The latest incident took place on Monday when a 21-year-old student was robbed of her phone, tablet, books and other items.

“I was standing at the front of the school waiting for a taxi when a group of men drove up and grabbed my bag,” said‎ the student, Nadsona McLeod.

McLeod, who is a student of the social sciences faculty, said the bag was still around her neck when the criminals struck.

She is this morning making a desperate call for the criminals to return items such as her books, phone and tablet and other important documents which she need for school.

Meanwhile, another student claims that she too has been a victim of the robbers on motorcycle.

“Students have to be on the lookout these criminals travelling on ‎their motorcycles make it habit to lurk in areas close to the school,” said the student who reported that she was also held up and robbed last week while heading to school.
