Security forces ready for visiting heads of gov’t
THE public was yesterday warned to brace for a number of traffic delays in some sections of the Corporate Area today and tomorrow as the Jamaica Constabulary Force implements a number of security measures to accommodate the visits of two prime ministers.
Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Cameron will arrive in the island today and is expected to leave on Wednesday, while Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected to arrive Wednesday.
“We are fully prepared, all systems are now in place,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Assan Thompson told the Jamaica Observer during an interview yesterday.
“We are satisfied that our plans are ready,” said Thompson, who declined to go into details, citing security concerns.
The police high command said the constabulary will be working with the Jamaica Defence Force to ensure the safety of the two prime ministers and members of their delegations.
“We have had several dry runs and we are satisfied that all things are in place,” Thompson said.
