KINGSTON, Jamaica — Industry, Investment and Commerce Minister Anthony Hylton has hailed the $2-billion investment by Kingston Wharves Limited (KW) in the construction of a logistics and warehousing facility, as a signal of confidence in the Government’s Logistics Hub initiative.

He was speaking at a press conference at the port operator’s Newport West premises on Wednesday, after viewing the progress of the first phase of work on the 160,000-square foot Total Logistics Facility.

Hylton said the tour “leaves no doubt in my mind that the Jamaica Logistics Hub is alive and well. We are pleased to see this investment underway. Kingston Wharves, you are truly hub active”.

The one-stop facility, being built by KW in two phases, will operate 24 hours daily, seven days per week. It will facilitate KW’s entry into supply chain management, manufacturing, order fulfilment, product assembly, labelling and other demand-based services.

It will also include administrative offices, and provision made for Government support service providers such as Jamaica Customs Agency.

According to Hylton, the bold investment by KW will make it easier for the nation’s exports to grow as it creates a platform for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to connect with the world.
