While we anxiously await Rihanna’s #R8 “Anti” album, the Diamond artiste is back on the big screen.  Although Rihanna is primarily known for her music, she’s no stranger to Hollywood. She has starred in 2012’s Battleship and this year’s animation Home, and made appearances in both 2014’s Annie and 2013’s This is the End. The Navy branded singer has landed a role in the sci-fi film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. The director Luc Besson took to Instagram saying “RIHANNA IN VALERIAN…….she has a big part!! I’m sooo excited!!!”  She co-stars with Dane DeVaan, Clive Owen, and her best friend Cara Delevingne .

Rihanna’s role remains unknown, but DeHaan and Delavingne are playing Valerian and Laureline. The characters are agents who help to defend a utopian 28th century Earth and its neighbouring planets from bad guys.  The movie takes on a time travel theme. At Comic-Con, he said that the film is inspired by James Cameron’s Avatar.

Furthermore, Besson threw his original script in the garbage and rewrote the movie with only five parts for humans, with the rest of the cast being alien species. So we don’t know if Rihanna will be playing human or extra-terrestrial. What we do know is that Besson will present us with mind blowing aliens, as seen in the Fifth Element.  

Since the film is set to be released on July 17, 2017, the Navy network will definitely get their album.
