100 winners for trainer Tyrone Prince
Trainer Tyrone Prince notched his 100th career win at Caymanas Park when his charge Rocketeer romped home at 17-1 in the first race. Ridden by claiming apprentice Bebeto Harvey for owner Dimple Ruddock, Rocketeer took up the running turning for home and drew clear at the 300-metre pole.
Although shortening a bit in the final 100 metres, Rocketeer held on for a neck victory over Titanic (Andre Powell) in the 1,300- metre event. Prince then made it 101 when Linton Steadman guided Sporting Clay in a gate-to-wire performance in the fifth race over 1,500 metres.
LINTON STEADMAN NOW CLAIMS THREE
Linton Steadman became the first rider of the present batch of 17 apprentices to lose a kilogramme off his claiming weight of four kilogrammes following his twotimer on the 10-race card at Caymanas Park.
Steadman started the day on eight winners and rode Sporting Clay and Fabulousconnection to victories to take his tally to 10 wins, the amount necessary to claim three kilogrammes.
Each apprentice start their riding careers with a four-kilogramme weight claim and after winning 10 races, that weight claim is reduced to three kilogrammes. They will start to claim two kilogrammes when they ride 30 winners.
FAVOURITES BITE THE DUST
Punters had a rough day at Caymanas Park on Saturday with only one favourite, Fearless Fury (2-1), obliging on the 10-race card. The longest odds winner was the Andrew McDonald – trained Legendary Pleasure, who got the race via the Steward’s Room at 21-1 following the disqualification of Doc Holiday.
The day started with a 17-1 winner, Rocketeer, with Bebeto Harvey riding for trainer Tyrone Prince and was followed by Pearlofmydreams at 13-1 with Dane Dawkins in the saddle.
Sir Budget (10-1) and Eternal Joy (9-1) also contributed to the punters’ miserable day. The Sunrise Six was not caught and has a carry-over of just over $1.39 million. The Twilight Six also defeated punters and now has a carry-over of more than $1.25 million.
