Busby encouraged by Women’s U-20 learning experience in Haiti
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica Under-20 Women’s assistant coach Hubert Busby said players and staff learned invaluable lessons during their CFU campaign in Haiti, where they finished second to the hosts.
“The games were priceless because that’s the only way you get experience. It’s all about learning and for us as staff it was good to see the players who would step up to the occasion and there were a few of those,” he told OBSERVER ONLINE.
The young Reggae Girlz had to do without injured captain Khadija Shaw, who missed the semi-final win over Puerto Rico and the loss to Haiti in the final.
“Not having Khadija obviously didn’t help. I think she would have been a major factor, not just because of her technical ability, but I think she would have brought a calming influence to the group,” Busby said.
Haiti, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago advanced to the CONCACAF stage of World Cup qualifying set to be contested in Honduras next month.
