JCF gearing up for general election
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Police High Command is reporting that the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s preparations for the next general election are now in high gear.
“We don’t know when (the election will be called) but we have to put ourselves in a state of readiness and preparedness, so that’s what we are doing now,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Assan Thompson told OBSERVER ONLINE.
“The election preparedness, in terms of security — we continue to look at the plans and continue to refine the plans from the area and divisional levels to make sure things are in place if and when the elections are called, to ensure we are ready,” the ACP said.
Political experts say the next general election is due between December 29, 2016 (the day of the previous election in 2011) and April 16, 2017 (within three months of the date of the first sitting of the new Parliament on 17 January 2012).
