KINGSTON, Jamaica — St Catherine CC retained their Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) 50-over title after defeating University of the West Indies (UWI) by 28 runs in the day/night final at Sabina Park on Monday.

St Catherine, who won the tournament last year, batted first after winning the toss and made 261-7 off their allotted 50 overs.

Wicketkeeper/batsman Darnell McCallum led the way for St Catherine with a 39-ball 53 not out, while Wayne Morgan contributed 52. Gavin Wallace made 41.

Seamer Christopher Powell took 2-55 for UWI, while off-spinner Nicholas Walters claimed 1-24. In reply UWI, first-time finalists, struggled at the beginning of their innings and reached 68-3 after 20 overs.

Despite Javaughn Buchanan’s 38 which helped to prop up the middle order they were dismissed for 233 in 47 overs and five balls. Chrishna Graham made 37.

Bowling for St Catherine, wrist spinner Odean Brown grabbed 3-42, while Morgan and Peat Salmon accounted for two wickets each.
