Apprentice Steadman stars with three-timer
Linton Steadman rode a brilliant three-timer to highlight the 10-race midweek programme at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Steadman became the first rider of his batch of 17 apprentices, which started their career over a month ago, to ride three winners on a single race day.
Steadman started in the third race when he guided the Donovan Plummer-trained Sir Biggs to a commanding 13-length victory over 1,820 metres.
He then steered Express Truck to victory for trainer Steven Todd in the sixth over 1,600 metres, before he produced a really good ride aboard Pocket Money for trainer Ryan Darby in the 10th and final event over 1,200 metres.
“It is a wonderful feeling to win three races in one day. I won three races the last race day, but one was disqualified, and I made sure today (yesterday) that I get my reward,” Steadman told the Jamaica Observer.
Steadman has so far ridden 13 winners.
Meanwhile, in another remarkable performance, Buzz Nightmare ignited Caymanas Park with his brilliance, capturing the top-rated race, an Overnight Allowance event over 1,000 metres round in fine style.
The Philip Feany-trained bay colt completed his fourth-consecutive victory and fifth overall from six career starts.
Ridden by Paul ‘Country Kid’ Francis, Buzz Nightmare won by a comfortable two-and-a-quarter lengths over Smokey Topaz (Jevvanne Erwin up), who outbattled Border Line (Wesley Henry astride) for second position, with Rum Punch, the mount of Ruja Lahoe, completing the frame in the seven-horse field.
Owned by Two Penyu and bred by Ham Stables Limited, Buzz Nightmare (Into Mischief – Queen Of Battle) stopped the clock in a personal best 59:2 seconds.
Force De Jour completed a sixth-consecutive victory when he dismantled rivals in a $550,000-$500,000-claiming event over 1,100 metres.
Racing continues on Saturday.
