KINGSTON, Jamaica — Social Media users have described the reshuffling of the Cabinet by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller as a bandage over an untreated wound.

Embattled Health Minister Dr Fenton Ferguson has been reassigned to the Ministry of Labour effective Monday, November 9, while minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Finance, Horace Dalley, is expected to take over from him at the Ministry of Health. Derrick Kellier remains at the Agriculture Ministry.

Former Contractor General Greg Christie was among those who weighed in on the commentary asking, “Are there others in leadership positions in the JA Ministry of Health, including political appointees, who, too, should be held accountable?”

This sentiment has been echoed by many who are also calling for the senior officials, including Chief Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health Dr Marion Bullock Ducasse, to be relieved of their responsibilities within the ministry.

On twitter @vaewest tweeted: “Well now that the #FireFenton campaign has been partially successful we need the ideas for a long-term plan to improve the health sector.”

Another user, @rtrowe, jeered the minister stating, “Don’t worry Fen-Fen, we’re gonna fire you…just not in a real sense…”

At the same time, many persons are of the view that Ferguson should be fired from the cabinet of ministers rather than be transferred while some are still of the view that he was the fall guy in the play of things.

Xtracool left a comment on the Jamaica Observer’s website stating that, “As in all things political there must be a sacrificial lamb. In all fairness the PM should have organised an independent investigation before meting out punishment.”

Dalley, who will replace Ferguson, served as minister of health from 2006-2007. He is a trained teacher and politician by profession.
