GEORGETOWN, Guyan (CMC) — West Indies batsman Rajindra Chandrika carved out his maiden first-class hundred to propel reigning champions Guyana Jaguars, on the opening day of their first-round contest against Windward Islands Volcanoes in the Regional First Class Championship here yesterday.

The 26-year-old opener, who suffered the embarrassment of a dreaded pair on Test debut against Australia back in June, hit an unbeaten 140 to lift Jaguars to 287 for four at the National Stadium at Providence.

He was supported by Vishaul Singh, who scored 48, veteran left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul, who scored 34, and captain Leon Johnson, 29.

Off-spinner Shane Shillingford picked up three for 87.

All told, the right-handed Chandrika batted the entire day, facing 310 deliveries and counting 21 fours.

His innings was instrumental after seamer Kyle Mayers bowled Assad Fudadin for four with the score on 27, as he proceeded to anchor three successive productive stands to ensure Jaguars remained on top.

He put on 48 for the second wicket with Johnson, 104 for the third wicket with Vishaul Singh before adding a further 80 for the fourth wicket with Chanderpaul.

Vishaul struck seven fours off 91 balls, while Chanderpaul faced 77 deliveries and gathered three fours.

Barbadian Raymon Reifer was unbeaten on 11 at the close.
