Looking Back: Vegas the road warrior
THOUGH his seventh album, Lovers Rock And Soul was released in October, much of 2015 saw Mr Vegas on the road.
The 42-year-old singjay toured Europe and North America with artistes from his MV label, including Latty J and Natel.
While he has been in the music business for over 20 years, Vegas is still being educated.
“It has been a very interesting year. I learned a lot more about the industry.
You can either let the challenges get the better of you or welcome the challenges,” he said.
His main objective was to find a new audience.
“I had to step away from the core dancehall and find ways to stay relevant. Releasing Lovers Rock And Soul did just that for me,” he said.
Lovers Rock And Soul was a cover set with songs done to classic dancehall beats such as the Queen Majesty and General.
Alton Ellis’ Girl I’ve Got a Date, Jon B and Babyface’s Someone to Love and Say Amen by Howard Hewett are some of the songs Vegas put his spin on.
The album was co-produced by Vegas and Cleveland ‘Clevie’ Browne.
The One Love Festival in Venice, Lagata Reggae Festival in Zaragoza, Spain and Reggae Jam Festival in Bersenbruck, Germany were some of the major events at which Mr Vegas performed this year.
