Children need career direction from parents — teachers
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Teachers at Clan Carthy primary school in Kingston are calling on parents to have more career oriented discussions with their children.
Teachers say the move is critical as too many students are passing through schools without any sense of direction of where they want to go after leaving school.
“Parents have to start holding more of these (career-based) interactions with their children,” Principal Sheldon Richards told OBSERVER ONLINE.
“Career discussions should be something that is ongoing,” said another teacher.
The principal also stressed that it was never too early to exchange ideas and to hear from the youth.
He made the comment today as teachers of the school hosted Career Day.
