Cheeky Costa, goal-scoring records broken etc
Another exciting week of football has ended and we have all the highlights.Who is set to join Chelsea this January? Who has the best goal-scoring streak in the Premier League? And what did Diego Costa do now? All this and more in our weekly football round up.
1. Jose Mourinho, in an attempt to somehow turn around Chelsea’s disastrous start to the season, has his eyes set on Alex Teixeira. If the name does not sound familiar, maybe you know him as the person who kicked off the scoring for Shaktar Donetsk which almost cost Real Madrid the game (more in the
Champs League Round up). The 25 year old Brazilian has scored 23 goals in 23 games for Shaktar this season. This is a huge contrast to the four goals Diego Costa netted this season for the Blues. Chelsea is said to be preparing to launch a £30m bid for him.
2. Jamie Vardy now has the best goal-scoring streak in the Premier League scoring in 11 consecutive matches. Vardy broke the record yesterday in his game against Manchester United (More about the Manchester United and Leicester game in the
European roundup) and have silenced his critics everywhere. One notable critic had posted a tweet three years ago expressing his dismay at Leicester signing Vardy who at the time was a non-league striker. The tweet resurfaced and received loads of attention after Vardy broke the record. Another tweet from 2012 resurfaced that prompted people to remember the name Jamie Vardy. Now I don’t think any EPL fan will forget it.
3. Diego Costa has once again made the headlines for being cheeky. Diego Costa showed his displeasure at not being able to play in Chelsea’s match today versus Tottenham by taking off his substitute bib and throwing it towards Jose Mourinho. But what did Mourinho have to say on the matter? Surprisingly he came out and said that he and Costa have no problems and this is normal behaviour from a top striker. Do you think Diego Costa should be face reprimanding?
4. Pellegrini out? The talk of the town is that Manchester City is after Bayern Munich’s manager Pep Guardiola. Pep’s contract expires June 2016 and there are no indications that he will be extending his stay at Bayern. Man City is said to pay him even more than Jose Mourinho who is the highest paid football manager in the world racking in £13.2million a year. There is no indication that Bayern is ready to lose him though.
5. Cristiano Ronaldo today has become La Liga’s third best goalscorer today netting Real Madrid’s second goal of the match against Eibar today. Ronaldo has now scored 234 goals in La Liga since he transferred there from Manchester United. Ronaldo’s next target will be Zara’s record of 251 and Lionel Messi who sits comfortably in the top spot with 290 goals. Do you think Ronaldo can ever be the top goal scorer in La Liga?
