Champ Hillstars open Manchester Major League with win
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Hillstars FC made an impressive start to the defence of their Manchester FA/Magnum/Captain’s Bakery Major League title following a 4-0 victory over Georges Valley on Sunday at the Kirkvine Sports Club.
Kale Wilson, who got a brace, gave the Spalding-based side the lead in the 28th minute, but they had to wait until the 85th minute to secure the three points after Kenroy Mullings lashed home a low free-kick.
Wilson then notched his brace in the 87th, before second-half substitute Omar Nembhard added a fourth against a rudderless Georges Valley side, whose goalkeeper, Odayne McDonald, spared them further embarrassment with a string of impressive first-half saves.
Former champions Alligator Pond FC were also among the winners on Sunday; the south Manchester side whipped Villa United 5-0 for the widest margin of victory on opening day.
Dane Seaton led the way with a hat-trick, while Kenji Thomas and Oshane Nelson chipped in with a goal apiece.
The day’s other game ended 3-3 between Greenvale United and newcomers Old England.
Ceon Campbell, with a two-timer, and Ricardo Ricketts got the goals for Greenvale, while Julian Bell, also with a brace, and Kemar Anderson, responded for Old England.
