SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras — Khadija Shaw’s double gave Jamaica a 2-2 result against hosts Honduras in their Group A CONCACAF Under-20 Championship clash at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano on Thursday.

Shaw scored from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute to pull Jamaica level after Elexa Barh gave Honduras the lead in the fourth minute from a well-placed free kick.

Barh ensured the Hondurans had the advantage at the break when she headed into the goal in the 43rd minute.

It was a painful goal to concede for the Jamaicans, who dominated the first half, but missed numerous chances with attacker Oshay Nelson-Lawes being the chief culprit.

Shaw, who stood out in midfield, saved the day for the Jamaicans when her crisp left-footer from just outside the box fizzed along the grass and beat the dive of Honduras goalkeeper Madelinne Matamoros in the 73rd minute.

In the Group A curtain-raiser at the venue, Canada defeated Trinidad & Tobago 2-0.

Sarah Kinzner and Martina Longcar were the scorers for Canada.

Jamaica’s next assignment will be against group favourites Canada on Saturday. On that same day, Honduras are set to clash with Trinidad & Tobago.
