Bureau of Standards commences petrol testing
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) has advised the Energy Ministry that samples have been collected and chemical analyses are underway for all petrol stations for which complaints were received for dispensing substandard or contaminated petrol.
According to a release from the ministry today, the tests are being conducted jointly by BSJ and Petrojam.
“Both testing facilities have requested additional time to complete the scientific investigations and have indicated that the exercise will be completed and submitted to the ministry by Wednesday of next week,” the release said.
The release added that Minister of State in the Energy Ministry Julian Robinson is leading a team to examine and review the protocols and regulations governing the petroleum trade.
“This exercise will inform recommendations relevant to the intensification of monitoring and enforcement measures to protect the integrity of the trade and the protection of the consumer,” the release said.
