Jamaica’s Alain Skerritt, who experienced some travel document issues, is expected to join the seven other Caribbean players who arrived in Manchester late yesterday for the Digicel Kick Start Clinic at the City Football Acedemy in England.

Skerritt, 16, who attends Excelsior High School, was chosen as the wild card from the clinic via fans who voted for him by way of the Digicel Jamaica social media platforms.

He is one of three Jamaicans who were selected, along with Akeem Robotham of St George’s College and Maliek Powell of Jamaica College, for the one-week training camp organised by Digicel in collaboration with English Premier League club Manchester City.

The Jamaicans were selected with three from Trinidad & Tobago — Elihaj Shade, Jon Paul Rochford and Tyrell Emmanuel, and two from Haiti — Charleus Talson and Elysee Nael Wellofky to attend the Man City training camp.

The footballers selected are among the best the Caribbean has to offer and were hand picked by the Manchester City coaches.

Players who attend the academy are looking to improve their talent in whatever way they can. With the academy giving them the chance to make their dreams come true, they will experience first-hand what it will be like to train with one of the biggest clubs in the world and build on their already fantastic talent. Their time at the clinic is expected to be well-spent as they will push themselves to be better players and better individuals, learning valuable qualities like discipline, camaraderie and teamwork.
