PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Jamaica Scorpions captain John Campbell says his team must resolve its batting woes if it is to leapfrog front-runners Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in the NAGICO Super50 tournament currently underway.

Scorpions resurrected from a spectacular batting collapse before pulling off a nail-biting two-wicket victory over Barbados Pride to post their second victory of the tournament on Monday.

Tail-ender Sheldon Cottrell hit two sixes in an unbeaten 16 to push Scorpions to their winning target of 139 after they slumped to 118 for eight at the start of the 33rd over.

“At one stage we were one something for two. We batted well until then,” said Campbell.

“I just think we have a problem losing clusters of wickets. One of the set batsmen has to look to bat as deep as possible for the team.”

After three rounds of matches in the tournament, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force are topping the table in Zone A with 12 points from three matches, two wins and no defeat.

Scorpions are running second with 10 points from three matches, two wins and one loss.

The two teams face each other at Shaw Park, Tobago, when the tournament enters its fourth round today.

Both teams will be boosted by the return of players from the recently concluded West Indies tour of Australia.

Campbell has confirmed that Jermaine Blackwood will be in the Scorpions line-up, while Darren Bravo and Denesh Ramdin are returning to the Red Force outfit.

“The table is close at the moment; if we lead we go above them. Obviously they are playing well at the moment,” said Campbell.

“They are at the top of the table but we have not been playing our best cricket yet. I think if we play our best cricket against them we will definitely win.”

The other Group A match features Barbados Pride against ICC Americas at Queen’s Park Oval.

Group B matches, which are being played in St Kitts, feature Guyana Jaguars against Windward Islands Volcanoes at Warner Park and Leeward Islands Hurricanes against Combined Campuses & Colleges at St Paul’s.
