Gov’t outlines support for consumers affected by bad gas
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Government officials, headed by Science, Technology, Energy and Mining Minister Phillip Paulwell, and the Attorney General, Patrick Atkinson today reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to consumer protection in a meeting with Opposition spokesman on Energy, Robert Montague and other industry stakeholders in the gasoline sector.
At the meeting, Paulwell outlined that the Cabinet has mandated a committee to explore opportunities for compensation to consumers affected by contaminated gasoline.
The Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC) is facilitating this process by accepting complaints from motorists.
Individuals with complaints are encouraged to observe the following process:
1) Gather all documentation, including:
• a report from a mechanic or other certified expert outlining the problems experienced with the motor vehicle; information regarding where the fuel was purchased.
2) Make a report to the CAC outlining the details above.
The CAC said that they will collate all reports and submit them to the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) for further tests and inspections to be conducted.
