KINGSTON, Jamaica – Paralympian Shane Hudson headlined the 18 individuals who are recipients of special awards at the RJR Sports Foundation Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Award Gala now under way at the Jamaica Pegasus in Kingston.

Hudson received the award for his silver medal performances at the Para-Pan Games and the IPC Athletics World Championships.

Paralympians Alphanso Cunningham and Tanto Campbell were also among the awardees for their feats at the Para-Pan Games.

Among the other awardees were Gareth Henry (Badminton); Chris Binnie (Squash); Tia Simms-Lymn (Fencing); and Kirk Wint (Softball Throw).

There were also Special Awards for some of Jamaica’s successful teams for their exploits in various sports. These include volleyball, badminton, squash, football, and track and field.

Meanwhile, six individuals received the Secondary Schools Awards recommended by ISSA. They are Michael O’Hara of Calabar for athletics; Junior Flemmings of Jamaica College for football; Abhijai Mansingh of Campion College in Cricket; Ayesha Champagnie of St Andrew Technical in athletics; Shantell Thompson of Lennon High in Football and Nalieka Watson of Holmwood Technical.
