Clarendon Major League kicks off today
HAYES, Clarendon — The Clarendon FA/Captain’s Bakery Major League gets underway today with a double header at the Wembley Centre of Excellence in Hayes.
Defending champions Jamalco FC will host Treadlight FC in the feature game at 3:00 pm, while Sporting Central Academy will meet Woodhall FC in the early kick-off at one o’clock.
The curtain-raiser will be followed by the opening ceremony.
Fifteen teams, spread across three zones of five, will battle for this major honour this season, with the champions set to earn a place in the South Central Confederation Super League play-offs.
Former top-flight outfit Sporting Central Academy, despite boasting a youthful squad, are likely to start as favourites for the title as they seek an immediate return to the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL). The south-western Clarendon side were relegated from the (RSPL) last term after almost a decade in the top flight.
They are drawn alongside Bucknor United, Moores United, Original Hazard and Woodhall in Zone C.
Jamalco, who came close to Premier League promotion two seasons ago, are likely to be Sporting’s main rivals. The south-eastern side will contest Zone B alongside Lionel Town, New Bowens, Savannah Cross and Treadlight.
Zone A comprises Comfort, Black Stars, Four Paths, Kemps Hill and York Town.
The top two teams from each group, plus the two best third-placed sides, will advance to the quarter-final round.
