Former champions Tivoli slump to 0-1 defeat to UWI
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The troubles for former champions Tivoli Gardens FC in the 2015-16 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season mounted on Sunday as they fell to a 0-1 defeat to University of the West Indies (UWI) FC at Edward Seaga Sports Complex.
Girvon Brown, who scored a treble for UWI when they beat Tivoli Gardens 5-2 earlier this season, was again the difference-maker – finding the net in the 82nd minute. Tivoli’s Rodico Wellington was shown a straight red card in the 87th minute. Tivoli had missed the chance to take a first-half lead when UWI custodian Amal Knight saved Junior Flemmings’ penalty kick.
The victory put Marcel Gayle-coached UWI into provisional fifth place on 30 points from 22 games. Tivoli, who had Assistant Coach Damion Gordon running affairs from the sideline in the absence of recently-fired Head Coach Christopher Bender, fell to 11th position with 19 points from 21 outings.
