Speid banks on male beach volleyballers to advance
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica Volleyball Association (JaVA) President Rudolph Speid is banking on the country’s male beach volleyball team to advance to the third round of qualifying for the Olympic Games.
The team, coached by Gatasheu Bonner, is set to depart for Antigua on Thursday to compete in the Continental Cup Inter-Zonal Phase of the second round of beach volleyball Olympic qualifiers.
“I’m definitely confident we’ll make it through to the third round of Olympic qualifying,” he told OBSERVER ONLINE.
Twelve countries are to compete in the second round, with the top six set to progress to the third round. The winner of that round will get an automatic bye to the Olympics.
The members of Jamaica’s team are Mark Lewis, Tristan Hitchman, Ryck Webb, and Christopher Walters.
