Swimmers depart for Florida
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A small group of senior swimmers from three Jamaican clubs departed the island on Friday to participate in a short-course swim meet at Saint Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, Florida.
The annual Scotty Invitational three-day meet, now in its 9th staging, comes one week before one of the qualifying meets for CARIFTA — the Karl Dalhouse Meet.
The Karl Dalhouse meet is scheduled to take place next weekend at the National Aquatic Centre in Kingston.
Alex Mignott, Abigail Lamey and Alexandra Bernyck of Tornadoes swim club; Jaden Morales of Y-speedos and Swimmaz Aquatic’s Emily McDonald will be the local representatives at the meet.
Meanwhile, Sidrell Williams, Xavier Phillips, Jesse Marsh, Nicholas Vale and Simone Vale will also be in action representing their respective clubs based in Florida.
Participation in the meet was organised by head coach of the Tornadoes Swim Club, Wendy Lee.
Lee, who is also the vice-president of swimming in the ASAJ, will take on coaching responsibilities for the group.
She explained that she will use the opportunity to forge new partnerships for the local swimming fraternity.
“We have two swimmers on scholarship at Saint Andrews and this trip will give us the chance to establish new links with our overseas counterparts as well as seek opportunities for our local swimmers,” said Lee.
