Nuclear Affair returns
After a stunning performance in the Supreme Ventures Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes run over a mile on Boxing Day last, when she lost by a head to colt Future King, Nuclear Affair makes her seasonal bow as trainer Gary Subratie aims his charge for the Classic races, especially the 1,000 Guineas and the Jamaica Oaks.
“Nuclear Affair really ran well in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes and was beaten literally in the last 10 yards of the race. I was very happy with her performance then, but now it is on to the task at hand — the prestigious Classic races,” Subratie said.
Nuclear Affair races tomorrow in a non-winners of two age-group event over seven and a half furlongs. The three-year-old chestnut filly by Nuclear Wayne – Commandra Affair faces two recent winners in colts Counter Attack and Orpheus, both from the barn of trainer Andrew Nunes, with the stable jockey opting to ride Orpheus.
The seven-horse field also features the duo of Another Fury and Stunner, both trained by Fitzroy Glispie.
“The field is quite a competitive one, but Nuclear Affair has pleased in her preparations for the event, and with the rest of just over a month she should be okay.
“I expect her to run really well and, for sure, we will be assessing her performance in the race tomorrow as we move forward,” the trainer said.
Counter Attack (Market Rally – Queen of Battle) came home strongly under the guidance of Ellis on January 16 over the same distance of tomorrow’s race in maiden company. He is fit and ready to go.
With Ellis deciding to ride Orpheus, all eyes will be trained on this chestnut colt by Adore The Gold – La Reina. Orpheus grabbed a victory over Counter Attack on January 1 when the former released his maiden tag. Orpheus is coming into this race in fine fettle and will be a threat for Nuclear Affair.
The Glispie-trained pair should run well without actually winning.
