UCASE wins rights poll at Petrojam
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) won Thursday’s representational rights poll at the government-owned oil refinery, Petrojam, in Kingston.
Results of the poll, involving management, professional and technical (MPT) employees of the refinery, conducted by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS), showed that 77 of the 91 eligible employees voted. All voted in favour of UCASE.
The results have given the new bargaining unit the right to be represented by UCASE in industrial relations issues, including salaries and working conditions.
UCASE’s general secretary, John Levy, said that the union was pleased with the result.
“We are happy with the turnout, and we will be representing all 91 employees in the bargaining unit, not only those that voted,” Levy said.
Petrojam was established in 1982 and is Jamaica’s primary petroleum product supplier. It is a limited liability company; jointly owned by PDVCaribe, a subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) and the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ).
