Tomlinson advances in ITTF Latin American Championships
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Jamaica’s national table tennis champion, Simon Tomlinson, dramatically turned his fortune around to join Michael Hyatt in the last 32 in Men’s Singles at the ITTF Latin American Championships in
Puerto Rico.
Tomlinson, who needed two wins from as many games to advance, did just that, as he registered 3-1 results over opponents from Peru and Guatemala respectively on Thursday.
The 25-year-old Tomlinson who suffered a lost 0-3 to Puerto Rico’s number two player Daniel Gonzalez in his opening encounter, ended with two wins and a loss to advance as one of two group qualifiers.
Jamaica just failed to have all three representatives in the next round as the promising Kane Watson suffered consecutive 3-0 defeats top seed Humberto Manhani and Samuel Galvez of Dominican Republic respectively.
With one win and two losses, Watson ended third in his group, despite a commanding 3-0 win over Gonzala Lorenzotti of Uruguay on Wednesday night.
The championship is scheduled to end on February 7.
