A former household helper is to be tried in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on allegations that she stole over $6 million from her boss.

Soares Lawrence, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny on Tuesday, is to stand trial on April 4.

The court heard that one day in March 2013, Lawrence and the complainant was at home when Lawrence was told that the sum of money was in a bag.

Later, on the night in question, a check by the complainant reportedly revealed that the money was missing from the bag.

The complainant confronted Lawrence, who reportedly said that she would repay the cash.

The court was told that Lawrence and the complainant went to a justice of the peace where Lawrence confirmed that she would repay the money.

Lawrence’s son, in a quest to prevent his mother from going to jail, allegedly begged the complainant not to report the matter.

The matter was eventually reported to the police three years later after Lawrence failed to keep her promise. The court was further told that, when the complainant invited Lawrence to visit the police station, she fled.

She was subsequently arrested and charge.
