Somerton FC stay perfect in Sandals/ATL Division One football

SOMERTON, St James — Somerton FC continued their rich vein of form in the St James Football Association Sandals/ATL Division One competition as they blanked Copperwood FC 2-0 on Thursday to end the first round with a perfect win record in Zone Two.

Dwayne Anderson scored both goals for Somerton FC in the 12th and 61st minutes as they ended a three-game unbeaten run by Copperwood FC.

Somerton FC, who were promoted to Division One at the end of the 2013-14 season after upsetting Faulkland FC to win the Division Two title, are on 15 points, five more than second-placed Bogue FC (10), followed by Copperwood FC (seven), Seaview FC (six points), Westgreen FC (four), and Salt Spring Roses yet to get a point.

Westgreen FC outscored Salt Spring Roses 3-2 at Albion on Thursday to get their first win of the season, as Robert Evans scored twice for the winners.

An own goal from Ricardo Brown handed Westgreen the lead in the third minute while Evans added goals in the 16th and 21st minutes, as Westgreen FC jumped out to a 3-1 lead.

Aaron Crawford pulled one back for Salt Spring Roses in the 40th minute and Nicon Hayles also got a second for Salt Spring Roses in the 88th minute as they staged a comeback in the second half.

At the UDC field, Paradise FC and Irwin FC played out a 1-1 draw. Tyrike Clarke gave Irwin FC the lead in the 11th minute before Everado Chambers equalised in the 44th minute.
