UHWI, Victoria Jubilee hospitals receive medical equipment from Guardian Life 5K Run
THE University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) and the Victoria Jubilee Hospital were presented, as beneficiaries, with vital medical equipment from the Guardian Life 5K Run at the handing over ceremony held at the UHWI Intensive Care Unit Boardroom recently.
The medical equipment was realised from proceeds of the two Guardian Life 5K events held in Montego Bay and Kingston last year.
The two races brought in a total of $13.5 million from individuals who participated in both events, with the majority of the proceeds going to UHWI.
Chairman of the UHWI Hospital Board James Moss-Solomon, who represented Minister of Health Horace Dalley, was happy with the equipment delivered.
“We express our sincere gratitude to the private and public sectors for their contributions. They have made several contributions to other hospitals right across Jamaica who are also in need of modern equipment,” Moss-Solomon said.
He noted that the Government alone cannot provide these very important pieces of equipment for so many hospitals across the island.
“All the hospitals presently are in need of modern and new medical equipment to bring them up to international standards, and we are looking out for corporate support for the two ‘Run For Life’ to be held in November this year,” the UHWI board chairman added.
President of Guardian Life Limited, Eric Hosin, said he takes pleasure in this contribution for the Run For Life as both races were very well supported.
“This contribution was far beyond excellent, and we thanked all those who made it a success. It is a glory to run and walk and we look forward for another great moment as we were able to assist from this total fund, to donate medical equipment to the Cornwall Regional and the St Ann’s Bay hospitals,” Hosin said.
Meanwhile, Kevin Allen, acting chief executive officer (CEO) of the UHWI said, “On behalf of the UHWI, its management and staff, we greatly thank Guardian Life Limited to again give the hospital well- needed medical equipment.
Meanwhile, Dr Orville Morgan, chief medical officer of Victoria Jubilee Hospital, was thankful for the medical equipment.
