Wadadah zoom in on Super League midseason final
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Wadadah FC must beat Sandals Whitehouse in a rescheduled game today at Jarrett Park if they are to join fellow St James club Granville FC in Saturday’s midseason final of the Jamaica Football Federation Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League.
Wadadah FC are on 17 points and trail Zone Two leaders Clarks Town by two points after the promoted Trelawny club were beaten 1-0 by Beaches Negril on Sunday, dampening their hopes of qualifying for the consolation final.
The stage is set for a competitive game, even as Sandals Whitehouse have no hopes of qualifying for the final, they will seek to avenge their loss to Wadadah FC in the first round and will also seek to move up in the overall points tables when the cross zone starts this weekend.
Both teams have inform strikers Robert Lewis and Kemiro James for Wadadah FC, while Ackeem Shackleford has been the talisman for Sandals Whitehouse with a league-leading eight goals since joining the team in the January transfer window.
On Sunday, Clarks Town FC missed a chance to put themselves in a position to challenge for a place in the final after they were edged 1-0 by Beaches Negril in their second-round game at Llandilo Sports Ground.
Oneil Blair scored in stoppage time to give the home team the win, avenging a first-round loss and left the door open for Wadadah FC to join Granville FC in Saturday’s consolation play-offs.
Meanwhile, Salt Marsh United snapped a five-game winless streak with a 1-0 win over Petersfield FC at the Davis Pen Community Centre.
An own goal from Shane Catton in the 38th minute was the difference between the two teams and avenged their first-round loss by the same margin at Petersfield.
At the Collin Miller Sports Complex, Marvin Sangster scored in time added on in the second half as Montego Bay Boys Club completed a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Lucea FC.
Asaka Frame had given the home team the lead in the 30th minute, but Glenroy Williams equalised in the 75th minute before Sangster scored the winner two minutes into added time.
